Bike Sharing is increasing across Canada! Montreal’s BIXI bike sharing program was the first public bike sharing system in North America and today it accelerating right across Canada. Here are Bike Sharing stats that Canadians are opting to use these bikes for alternative transportation and major cities creating more bike paths and are making it safer (I hope) for people to bike.
MONTREAL - In 2023, 1 in 4 Montrealers took 11.7 million trips, an increase of 31 percent from 2022 and 55 percent from 2021.
TORONTO – In 2011 Bike Share program had 1000 bikes and 90 Smart. Today, the program has close to 10,000 bikes and over 900 Smart Stations.
CALGARY – Shared Micromobility program saw a 25% increase in ridership from 2021 to 2023, with over 1.3 million trips yearly.
VANCOUVER - Mobi by Rogers In 2023, experience a 22% increase in rides and total distanced travelled grew by 38%.
Overall these stats are very impressive in a very short time period and if they continue (and they should) bikes will play a key role in reducing our carbon emissions.
