Microplastics & Bone Issues

A review of more than 60 scientific studies found that microplastics can have multiple harmful effects, including stimulating the formation of osteoclasts—cells responsible for breaking down bone tissue. The findings, published in Osteoporosis International, suggest that exposure to microplastics could represent a new risk factor for bone health.

Growing evidence indicates that plastic contamination poses serious risks to human health. Experts warn this underscores the urgent need to curb global plastic use. Each year, over 500 million tons of plastic are produced worldwide, yet only 9 percent is recycled; the rest accumulates in the environment, where it gradually degrades and spreads.
