World Water Day is observed on March 22 to raise awareness of the 2.2 billion people worldwide who lack access to safe drinking water, while promoting the sustainable management of freshwater resources. It underscores the vital role of freshwater and draws attention to the growing global water crisis, including issues of pollution and scarcity.
In Canada, approximately 385,000 people do not have reliable access to clean drinking water. This challenge is largely concentrated in First Nations communities, where around 39 long-term drinking water advisories remain in place across 37 communities. Despite a federal commitment made a decade ago to resolve this issue, significant gaps remain. There is an urgent need for collective action to ensure all Canadians have access to safe, clean water. Carney fix this problem now, Trudeau didn’t.
