No Plastic With Microwaves

DO NOT microwave your food in plastic trays or under plastic wrap.

Research shows that heating ready meals in their plastic containers can release large numbers of microscopic plastic particles into the food within minutes—even when the packaging is labeled “microwave-safe.”

One recent study found that just five minutes of microwaving caused between 326,000 and 534,000 microplastic and nanoplastic particles to leach into food simulants. This is up to seven times more particles than were released when similar packaging was heated in an oven.

The microplastics and nanoplastic particles are so tiny they are invisible to the naked eye. It can also release chemicals commonly used in plastic manufacturing, such as bisphenols and phthalates, which have been linked in research to hormone disruption, infertility, and certain cancers.

In reality, we are being exposed to a cocktail of microplastics and hazardous chemicals that should never be in or near our food.
