Estée Lauder Cosmetics Ltd. was fined CAD $750,000 in Canada in January 2026 after pleading guilty to breaching environmental regulations related to the use of PFAS, often called “forever chemicals,” in some of its eyeliner products.
Inspectors from Environment and Climate Change Canada found that certain eyeliners contained Perfluorononyl Dimethicone, a type of PFAS.
Before buying cosmetics, it’s a good idea to review the ingredient list and do a quick search to understand whether any chemicals used could pose health risks. Taking a few extra minutes now can help you make safer choices in the long run.
