E-Waste Day

International E-Waste Day highlights the growing problem of electronic waste (e-waste) and promotes its safe and responsible management. In 2019, the world generated 53.6 million tonnes of e-waste, but only 20% was recycled properly, while the remaining 80% was landfilled, incinerated, or illegally dumped.

Globally, we produce around 40 million tonnes of e-waste each year, which makes up 70% of all toxic waste. Common hazardous items include LCD monitors, LCD and plasma TVs, and computers.

How to celebrate International E-Waste Day:
1. Use electronic products for as long as possible.
2. Choose devices designed for repair, upgrades, and refurbishment.
3. Buy electronics that state that they have recycled materials, i.e. plastic
4. Sell or donate old electronics instead of discarding them.
5. Ensure your e-waste is recycled safely and responsibly.
