Building Ontario's Environmental Plan:  Environmental Defence
Over the past four weeks, ecoMVMNT has posted each Ontario Party's Environmental Plans except for the Liberals who don't have one.  In this post, ecoMVMNT wanted to get a non-party environmental view that has demonstrated a strong voice and pro-active leadership in climate change.

Environmental Defence is a leading Canadian environmental advocacy organization that works with government, industry and individuals to defend clean water, a safe climate and healthy communities.  A key quality of Environmental Defence is that they make an effort to listen to the People of Ontario and the rest of Canada in defining what environmental initiatives need to be executed in reducing Ontario and Canada's GHG emissions. The following are four environmental initiatives that E.D. advocates for a cleaner environment now and for future generations:
  1. GHG Emission Reduction:  end fossil fuel subsidies and create jobs in clean technology
  2. Stop Plastic Waste:  government laws in businesses reducing & eliminating plastic packaging
  3. Protect Ontario's Environment:  Protect the Greenbelt, Great Lakes, and STOP Hwy 413
  4. Remove Toxic Chemicals:  What manufacturers, retailers, government, and consumers can do
ecoMVMNT has now compiled the environmental initiatives (plan or promises) from each Ontario party, including the Environmental Defence and ecoMVMNT's recommendations, in Building an Ontario Environmental Plan in reducing GHG emission targets by 2030 and 2050.  Next Steps?  ecoMVMNT will produce a 1-2 page document that provides each Party's environmental plans so The People of Ontario can understand, in simple terms, what each party's eco-plans are before they go to the ballot box in the upcoming Ontario election.  Stay tuned.
